The Educational Assistant – ASD County Class is a full-time, temporary contract opportunity, offering a salary range from $26.92 to $31.30 per hour. This position includes an additional yearly compensation, adjusted for FTE, and participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is required for all full-time employees. Applicants must have relevant qualifications, such as a human services degree or diploma, and specific training in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS).
The job involves supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Day-to-day tasks include assisting with academic work, social skills, life skills, and managing behaviour. Physical requirements like lifting and toileting are expected, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in some situations. Educational Assistants work closely with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to a positive learning environment. Strong communication skills, data tracking, and positive reinforcement techniques are essential.
